No .DS_Store files on mounted network drives

Enter this in the Terminal application:

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

This tip originally surfaced for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, but may also work for 10.5 Leopard.
